🏴 England 4-2 Croatia — The Comeback
Wednesday 17 June 2026 · AT&T Stadium, Dallas · Group L
This was the England performance. Not just the result — the manner. Trailing 2-2 at half-time in their biggest match of the tournament, Tuchel delivered what Harry Kane himself described as a "great speech" at the break. England came out for the second half transformed: sharper, hungrier, and completely dominant.
Two second-half goals put England 4-2 up and they never looked back. Croatia — finalists in 2018, semi-finalists in 2022 — were simply outclassed by a side that has found a genuine belief under Tuchel.
Harry Kane opened the scoring. Jude Bellingham was magnificent throughout. By the end, the watching world was asking a question England fans haven't been able to ask seriously in years: could this team go all the way?
England top Group L with 3 points. Ghana are second on 3 points (1-0 Panama). The group is alive — England vs Ghana on Monday 23 June, 21:00 BST at BMO Field, Toronto is a genuine six-pointer.
Group L — After Matchday 1:
⚠️ Saka concern: Bukayo Saka was the only England player not in group training on Friday as England prepare for Ghana. Saka has been managing an achilles issue throughout the tournament. Tuchel is expected to provide an update at Saturday's press conference.
🏴 Scotland 0-1 Morocco — Still Alive, Just
Friday 19 June 2026 · Gillette Stadium, Boston · Group C
Scotland lost to Morocco 0-1 but the mood in the Tartan Army's camp is one of resolute determination rather than despair. This was a tightly contested match — referee Ilgiz Tantashev denied what Scotland midfielder John McGinn believed was a clear penalty, telling him through the VAR earpiece that the ball was going out of play. Scotland's manager Steve Clarke and the players were understandably frustrated.
BBC pundits Tom English and Pat Nevin both wrote post-match that Scotland showed "substance" — a team that didn't collapse when faced with adversity, that kept creating, and that made Morocco work for every moment.
The path to the Round of 32? Scotland need to beat Brazil in MD3 and hope results elsewhere go their way. It requires a sequence of favours — Uzbekistan need to beat DR Congo, Argentina need to run riot — but the Tartan Army are heading to Miami for the Brazil match with exactly the spirit this requires: hope and no fear.
Group C — After Matchday 2:
🇺🇸 USA Into the Round of 32!
Friday 19 June 2026 · Group D — USA 2-0 Australia
The USA are through to the Round of 32 with a game to spare after beating Australia 2-0. Six points from two games, 6 goals scored, 1 conceded. The co-hosts are the early tournament revelation — their opening 4-1 win over Paraguay was dismissed by some as a minnow result; the controlled 2-0 victory over Australia cannot be. The USA are a legitimate force in this tournament, playing with confidence, shape, and genuine quality.
Alex Freeman — son of Super Bowl hero — was outstanding in the win. American football fans who barely followed the round ball game are now among the loudest voices. There's a feeling around this tournament that the USA could go deep.

📅 Up Next — England vs Ghana
Monday 23 June 2026 · 21:00 BST · BMO Field, Toronto · Group L MD2
England's second group match is a potential banana skin. Ghana are in good form (1-0 Panama), motivated, and playing with real pace up front. They will be without Thomas Partey — denied entry to Canada by visa complications — but are far from a pushover.
For England fans, a win tonight secures progress from the group. A draw keeps them in the mix. A loss would make the Panama match decisive.

🌍 Other Stories This Week
Canada 6-0 Qatar — Canada are flying. Six goals, Cyle Larin scored twice. BMO Field erupted. Canada are quietly becoming the tournament's feel-good story.
Argentina 3-0 Algeria / Messi hat-trick — Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick against Algeria to reach 16 World Cup goals, equalling the all-time record. Argentina fans in Kansas reacted with scenes of pure disbelief and joy.
Netherlands 5-1 Sweden (today) — Netherlands are looking like serious title contenders. Sweden sacked their manager Sabri Lamouchi after one game; his replacement couldn't stop the Dutch.
Brazil 3-0 Haiti (today) — Brazil finally delivered a convincing performance. The question remains whether the real Brazil has arrived — but three goals against Haiti calms some nerves. Scotland's path to the R32 is now mathematically very tight.
Portugal 1-1 DR Congo — One of the group stage's early shocks. Portugal dropped points against the tournament's smallest nation by population.
